Who Doesn’t Love A Cocktail?

Bloody Mary, Long Island Ice Tea, we all have our favourite. But did you know your skin also loves a cocktail?

Now before you dive into the nearest happy hour, we’re talking about a different kind of cocktail. Sorry.

Enter serums!

Some of us may use one, some of us may not get the point of using them at all, but they are a vital part of our skin care. Moisturisers are designed to work very superficially on the outer layers of skin, serums are designed to work on the deeper layers, working from the inside out and priming our skin cells for when they reach the big bad world of the top layers.

There is a serum for everything. And unless you are extremely lucky, most of us have more than one skin concern. Whether it’s ageing, acne, rosacea, sensitivity, dehydration, pigmentation, dryness, lines and wrinkles, sagging, irritation, the list goes on…

Why just treat one of these concerns when with a cocktail of serums you can target them all?

Call me excessive but in the morning I use four serums (Cosmedix Affirm, Aspect Dr Multi B and Active C, and Payot Elixir Lift if you were wondering), in the evening I use five (Multi B, Active C, Lift, Cosmedix Refine Plus and Defy)

Generally, with serums that are the same consistency you can simply put a pump of each into your hands, mix them together and apply to your face and neck. If you have ones of different consistency put the lighter textured ones on first and the heavier/oilier ones last.

With products from Aspect Dr, Cosmedix, Skin Medica and Payot we have a cocktail suited to everyone’s skin!

During August when you buy any two Aspect Dr serums you receive a free 100ml Aspect Dr Mild or Deep Clean Facial Cleanser worth $49.50!

Cleanse, Cleanse, Cleanse

When it comes to cleansers you can never have too many if you ask me.

Most professionals will recommend you have at least a couple of different cleansing options at home.

“Why bother?”

I’m glad you ask. Our skin and our day to day lives change. A lot. What is right for you today may not be particularly good for you tomorrow.

Take myself for example. My skin is a classic combination. Oily T-zone, dehydrated cheeks, and the thought of ageing petrifies me. My ‘every day’ cleanser is Cosmedix Purity Clean – I use it in the shower, it controls my oil flow, it has mild AHAs which give a slight exfoliation, helping with things from clearing up break outs to slowing the ageing process.

However, there are times this will be too active for my skin… If I’ve got a cold and my nose is red raw from blowing it. The few days post peel/laser/microdermabrasion etc. When I’ve forgotten I have pale English skin and overdo it in the sun. In these cases I use Cosmedix Benefit Clean, its extra gentle, sulphate free and amazing for sensitive skin!

Then come the times I arrive home after a few lemonades at 4am on a Sunday morning. Now, there is no way on this earth am I about to start washing my face over the sink. But I can hand on heart say 99% of the time I take my make up off before collapsing in a heap in bed. And I do it as quickly and easily as humanly possible using Payot’s Eau Micellaire Express. Whack it onto a couple of cotton wool pads, wipe it all over my face and eyes and voila…. Sleep.

So before you say “but I’ve got a cleanser at home” just think if it really does suit you 100% of the time.

Tech Neck… Its a thing

iPhones, Tablets, gadgets and gizmos. We all have them. We all love them. But what are they doing to our faces??

Think about it… on the bus – quick Facebook check. Waiting for the kettle to boil – send that email. Out for dinner – upload the pic straight to Instagram. During all this you’re looking down. This action is leading to an increase in drooping jowls, sagging skin, and lines around your chin and lips.

*drops phone in panic and stares at ceiling*

What can we do to prevent this?

Firstly, don’t neglect your neck. Whatever skin care you’re using on your face, don’t stop at the jawline, give your neck some love too.

Secondly, introduce a product designed to tighten and smooth the skin of the neck and décolleté such as Payot’s Perform Sculpt Roll-On.

Thirdly, get your head out of your phone! Be present. Daydream out the window when on the bus, look your friends in the eye when out for dinner, you’ll be surprised at the things we miss by being so absorbed in our technology.
