The Magic Of Melodia

Maybe you’ve seen our Melodia Signature Stone Body & Face Massage in our price list, or read Sue’s Facebook review of the treatment…

“This is more than a massage – it’s a total mind and body experience. It was, without doubt, the best massage treatment I have ever had.”

Well I’m here to tell you a bit more about why you should stop what you’re doing and book yourself in immediately.

During this 90 minute treatment I will use 54 different sized and shaped basalt stones. Some you will lay on top of, some will lie on top of you, some you will hold, some will sit between your toes, and others I’ll use to massage you. These stones are all naturally formed by the earth and are hundreds of thousands of years old.

Using stones for healing is no new fad. The Mayan Indians, Chinese, Russians, Japanese, Hawaiian Kahunas and Mapuche healers of Chile have all used them for thousands of years. We have Stonehenge and stone circles using the powers of Mother Earth to recharge and rebalance. How many times have you picked up pebbles on the beach for no apparent reason and taken them home with you??

Before the massage starts I will perform a smudging ritual using a blend of Australian bush leaves to cleanse the room and both you and me, of any negative energy to allow you to get the best benefits from the treatment.

As you melt into the spinal placement stones underneath you, the chakra stones on top of you begin to open up the flow of energy around your body, taking you off to another world as the working stones gently ease out any knots and tension in your muscles.

This really is the ultimate treatment to calm the mind, relax the body and soothe the soul.

Clinical Peels FAQ’s

Are Clinical Peels safe?

Yes. As long as your skin is suitable, prepared appropriately and the recommended aftercare instructions are followed.

Can anyone have one done?

Our peels range from ‘today peels’ that most people can have done with little to no preparation beforehand, to more advanced ‘tomorrow peels’ which will require a certain degree of preparation at home for up to 4 weeks before a peel. Not all skins will be suited to certain peels and your therapist will do a thorough consultation to determine to right one for you.

Do they leave the skin red and oozing? (remember  Samantha on THAT episode of Sex & The City?)

No. Those sort of peels have more of an ablative effect. The epidermis (upper layers of the skin) is partially or completely removed and will take around two weeks to heal.

Our Clinical Peels actually initiate an exfoliating response which occurs over several days whereby your epidermis is still intact. You may experience some mild pinkness to the skin but it normally resolves within an hour or so.

What effects should I expect from a peel?

Slight sensitivity for the first 3 days and possible dryness or mild flaking from days 4 to 5. Occasionally if there is hyper-pigmentation in the skin this can appear darker post-peel as it moves closer to the surface of the skin to be eradicated. After 1 to 2 weeks the skin will be smoother, more even, and brighter.

How long is my skin sensitive after a peel?

Normally 3 – 5 days depending on the type of peel. Sometimes you may experience flaking for up to 7 days.

Are they suitable for finer skin types?

Yes. We offer several types of peels. Your therapist will recommend the one most suited to your skin type.

Will my skin look dramatically different after one peel?

No. It takes at least 3 – 6 treatments to see a significant change. Depending on the skin condition and your concerns it can take up to 12 treatments along with ongoing maintenance treatments. However, your skin will generally look brighter, smoother and healthier after your first peel.

Does it help problematic skin conditions?

Yes. The exfoliation assists with removing dead skin cell build up that can be clogging and congesting pores. It also helps to regulate oil flow.

Will I break out after a treatment?

Potentially. It is more common for problematic skin types to break out after a peel. This is caused by the purging of the pores as the skin exfoliates and rejuvenates. Sometimes it has to get worse before it can get better.

Will wrinkles actually reduce?

Yes. As we age and with sun damage our skin doesn’t naturally exfoliate and renew as efficiently and leads to a build up that gives the appearance of uneven superficial fine lines and wrinkles. Clinical Peels will speed up the exfoliation process leading to a smoother, more refined and younger looking skin allowing fresh healthy cells to appear.

Deep wrinkles or dynamic lines may be softened somewhat For the most superior results it is strongly advised you follow a treatment program that includes multiple treatment types. Your therapist will discuss this with you.

Do they remove freckles?

Yes. They are very effective at reducing superficial hyper-pigmentation, sun damage and uneven skin colour and tone. There are several varieties of pigmentation, with some very challenging to eradicate. Your therapist will advise you what sort of results to expect. Sun protection is essential when treating skin discoloration disorders. A sun block will be required during and after the treatment as well as a pigment-inhibiting product for ongoing prevention of future hyper-pigmentation.

Confessions Of An Injectables Virgin

I did it! I said I would never go down that path, but I bit the bullet and did it.

I got Botox.

And guess what? It wasn’t as scary or painful as I thought… in fact, I love it.

After watching the endless parade of friends and family having their faces injected and perfected, I figured it was time to see what all the fuss was about. I had my tax refund and hey, it’s all in the name of research – if I don’t like it, it can just be a one off. Except that I now love seeing 21 year old Ally in the mirror again, I think I’m hooked.

Walking into Dr Deon’s treatment room, I figured I would just chat to him about options and if anything took my fancy, I’d go for it. As it turns out, injectables are about so much more than anti-ageing. They have the ability to reshape a face, to minimise your need for makeup and to awaken the tired look it’s taken me 31 years to perfect. After a chat about my medical history and a thorough look at my face and all the bits I wasn’t so keen on (read: pretty much everything between my hairline and my toes!) Dr Deon presented me with the idea of several units through my forehead and frown lines (courtesy of a husband with a love for leaving cupboards open) and a few extra into the sides of my jawline to slim my “I love cake” style face.

Now, for a girl whose palms could end a drought when presented with the mere idea of a needle – I survived remarkably well. Truth be told, I’ve extracted blackheads that hurt more than my Botox. The worst of the injections feeling little more than the pop of a juicy pimple (but with a MUCH nicer looking outcome).

30 minutes is all it took from “let’s see what he has to say” to “oh my god! I did it!” Three weeks on and not only do I see my 21 year old face again… the droopy eyes that I unfortunately inherited from my father’s side are now a beautiful awakened almond shape that require no eyeliner artistry to correct each morning.

The only downside – having to find a different way to react to open cupboards around the house.

Who Doesn’t Love A Cocktail?

Bloody Mary, Long Island Ice Tea, we all have our favourite. But did you know your skin also loves a cocktail?

Now before you dive into the nearest happy hour, we’re talking about a different kind of cocktail. Sorry.

Enter serums!

Some of us may use one, some of us may not get the point of using them at all, but they are a vital part of our skin care. Moisturisers are designed to work very superficially on the outer layers of skin, serums are designed to work on the deeper layers, working from the inside out and priming our skin cells for when they reach the big bad world of the top layers.

There is a serum for everything. And unless you are extremely lucky, most of us have more than one skin concern. Whether it’s ageing, acne, rosacea, sensitivity, dehydration, pigmentation, dryness, lines and wrinkles, sagging, irritation, the list goes on…

Why just treat one of these concerns when with a cocktail of serums you can target them all?

Call me excessive but in the morning I use four serums (Cosmedix Affirm, Aspect Dr Multi B and Active C, and Payot Elixir Lift if you were wondering), in the evening I use five (Multi B, Active C, Lift, Cosmedix Refine Plus and Defy)

Generally, with serums that are the same consistency you can simply put a pump of each into your hands, mix them together and apply to your face and neck. If you have ones of different consistency put the lighter textured ones on first and the heavier/oilier ones last.

With products from Aspect Dr, Cosmedix, Skin Medica and Payot we have a cocktail suited to everyone’s skin!

During August when you buy any two Aspect Dr serums you receive a free 100ml Aspect Dr Mild or Deep Clean Facial Cleanser worth $49.50!

Why do we sell so many take home products?

I used to wonder this myself when visiting a salon – why so many options and how do I choose?

Actually, there are a few reasons.

Firstly, we want you to continue your treatment regime at home. We always ask our clients what their skin concerns are and what they would like to achieve. Following the prescribed treatment plan will help make those goals a reality sooner.  You wouldn’t expect to improve your fitness by going to the gym just once a month – same applies to skin care.

Secondly, think of it as food for your skin; if you eat at a restaurant once a month, that’s not your only meal.  You still cook at home, and while your meals might not have the same presentation as a restaurant meal, you use pretty much the same ingredients.

Most of the products we recommend as home-care have the same ingredients as the salon products we use on your skin, although in some cases the level of active ingredients is not as high.

Lastly, we don’t eat exactly the same meals every day; we know we need to eat fruit and vegetables every day but we like variety.  Your skin is the same – it needs different nutrition at different times.

Ask your therapist to prescribe a home-care regime to suit your lifestyle and budget for you next time you are in.
